Batt insulation is the classic "blanket" insulation you picture in a wall cavity — and for the right job, it's still one of the most reliable, cost-effective options in Florida.
What batt insulation is
Batts are pre-cut lengths of insulation — usually fiberglass, sometimes mineral wool — sized to fit snugly between studs, joists, and rafters. They come faced (with a vapor barrier) or unfaced, and are installed by hand for tight, even coverage.
Where batts work best
- New construction & production homes — fast, clean, easy to inspect before drywall.
- Walls — strong thermal and sound control between rooms.
- Garages, additions, bonus rooms — anywhere framing is open and accessible.
Batt vs. blown-in vs. spray foam
Blown-in is usually better for existing attics because it fills irregular gaps. Spray foam gives the highest R-value per inch and air-seals as it cures. Batts win on cost and speed when framing is open — which is why they're a staple of new construction.
The best homes often use a mix: batts in the walls during the build, blown-in on the attic floor, and spray foam or air sealing where leaks are worst.
Installation makes the difference
Batt performance lives and dies on installation. Gaps and compression around wiring leave "thermal holes" that waste energy. Our crews cut and fit each batt properly so you get the full rated R-value.
